FROM THE SISTERS

When we started The Sisters Digest, we really didn't know what it would become. We just knew we wanted to make something different. Something you could hold in your hands, sit down with for a little while, and maybe even keep when you were finished.

Over the past year, this newspaper became so much more than that. Women opened their homes and lives to us through their writing. Grandmothers shared stories and things they had learned over a lifetime. Artists trusted us with their work. We talked about motherhood, marriage, home, faith, food, creativity, community, and the ordinary parts of life that don't always get much attention. Every month, we got to gather all of that together and send it into your homes.

And somewhere along the way, you made it yours too. You sent us pictures of the paper sitting on your kitchen tables. You wrote to tell us when something made you laugh, think, cry, or call someone you loved. You shared issues with your mothers, sisters, daughters, and friends. There were women behind every article and women on the other side reading them, and that has probably been our favorite part of all of this.

We are incredibly proud of what we made. We also know when something needs to change.

We are sisters, but we are also mothers raising five children between the two of us. This newspaper has required a lot from our families every single month. After a lot of conversations, we've decided that stepping away from producing The Sisters Digest as a monthly newspaper is what is best for us right now. We want more of our time and attention to go back to the people in our own homes.

That decision is bittersweet because we still believe deeply in what this paper was about. We still believe there is value in putting down a screen and picking up something you can hold. We still love good stories, useful things, beautiful work, and giving people a reason to slow down for a little while.

And that is exactly why there is one part of The Sisters Digest we aren't ready to let go of.

THE JUNIOR DIGEST

The Junior Digest will continue as a seasonal newspaper for children, with a new issue coming at the end of September.

As mothers, this one feels especially close to home. Between the two of us, we have five children. We know how easy it is for childhood to become filled with screens and constant entertainment, and we wanted to make something that asks kids to actually do something.

The Junior Digest is filled with puzzles, riddles, coloring, games, nature, little bits of history, seasonal activities, things to look for outside, things to make, things to learn, and things that might send them running off to find an answer for themselves.

We make it for our five kids, but we make it for yours too.

We want to give them something that feels like it belongs to them. Something that can end up folded on the kitchen table, carried outside, scribbled on, colored in, worked through with a sibling, or saved beside their bed for later.

So while this chapter of The Sisters Digest is changing, we're not disappearing completely.
